In today's times of sleek electronic appliances & minimalist furniture, one need not go in for a piece that overpowers the look of the lcd display itself. It should suitably compliment the look & size of the television. A wooden piece of furniture would give it the required elegant look & feel.

Ensure that you have the outer measurement of the television screen & the space available on the wall. The size of the cabinet should at least match the size of the display screen or more. Depending upon whether you need to accommodate complementary requirements such as dvd player, home theatre equipment etc, you may need something with two or more shelves.

Ensure that the cables & sockets are properly hidden at the back by the furniture & are not visibly dangling. If required you could make more holes at the back of the cabinet for the wires to pass through.

The lcd cabinet should also blend with the rest of the furniture in the living room or space where it is displayed.

Decide the size of the cabinet in proportion to the length in between your seating arrangement & the television screen.

Sizes can vary from as small as two & a half feet to over five feet. The smaller ones are accommodated in bedrooms whereas larger ones are accommodated in living rooms.
A wooden cabinet would also be better in terms of longevity & durability as one need not discard. Wood can always be repaired, re polished & made to look new again.

In my bedroom, can i have both white and wooden pieces of furniture ?
I think so. I have all wooden furniture and a white wicker headboard. As long as most is one color it looks fine.
