How do I tell my seven foot henchman Bongo he's not cut out to be a children's TV presenter?
My murderous henchman Bongo has set his heart on becoming a presenter on the TV show Blue Peter. Now I know there have been some rather deviant presenters on that show before now but I seriously doubt any one of them has assassinated a member of Russian Royalty with an eggcup. Although I have heard Valerie Singleton was lethal with nunchucks.
How do I go about telling Bongo its best he sticks to the day job.
This is a knife-edge conundrum, Rotty!
I know the hulkingly grotesque Bongo is a devil-thing when riled, but his heart is deceptively soft and would surely break should you - his mentor, father-figure, and the only one who dares lovingly biff him into submission with a croquet mallet when he's forgotten to take his meds - tell him he is not ideal Blue Peter material.
You walk a tightrope here, old friend. And, moreover, the safety of all of us in the surrounding areas depends upon your not putting a foot wrong. I remember a while ago when you innocently commented to Bongo that he didn't suit his hair in a centre parting: The community is still recovering from the carnage that ensued - and I fear Old Ned the gardener will never view his cucumber straightener in quite the same light.
Therefore I say tread softly on Bongo's dreams, AR. Allow him time off to audition for the role of harmless children's TV presenter. Encourage him even. Have the oversized lummocks kitted out in shorts, school cap, and blazer - and send him off on his adventure to the big city with a hoop and stick, plus return address tattooed to his enormous forehead for when he inevitably gets lost.
If by chance he makes it to the studio then the unenviable task of telling him his looks are not "camera friendly" enough - not to mention his Criminal Records Bureau check scoring him "100% undesirable" - will surely fall to none other than the current Blue Peter presenters.
Bongo will of course be hurt to receive the bad news from his heros. But not as hurt as if you, yourself had broken it to him, Rotty - and certainly not nearly so hurt as those three simpering buffoons when they've been booted all around the Blue Peter garden and had sticky-back plastic and squeezy bottles rammed up their derierres.
