Govt Imparts Expertise to Intl Delegates From Leather Sector
The Chinese Government has organized a training programme wherein, leather experts from more than 36 countries are participating. The workshop is organized for learning the process of turning cattle hides into finished leather using the latest technology.
Looking at the technical advancement made by Chinese leather sector in past 20 years, it now wants to share the valuable knowledge with other developing nations, in order to help them revive this industry.
Among the new technologies that are being taught, one of them is the tanning method that uses less of the potentially harmful chromium chemicals common in standard processing. China has also started using vegetable dyes as a replacement for chemical products as it will cause less harm to the environment.
Chinese authorities believe that, majority of developing countries donot spend huge amount on research and development, as they do not have that kind of resources. This training will surely bring some change in the global leather industry.
Countries like Kenya have hardly changed and still use age-old methods as there is lack of capital inflow. Although, their leather sector has huge potential if it moves from semi-processed hides to finished products.
Tanzania, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria along with many South America and Asia regions are acquiring knowledge by proficient professionals here.
