Themed Chess Sets - Robin Hood Era
The legendary tale of Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men have been told and retold for centuries. Considered an outlaw in English Folklore, Robin Hood made himself famous as 'the prince of thieves', stealing from the wealthy and giving it to the poor. Was this a medieval tale, just a story of fantasy or was there really a Robin Hood?
The scene is set deep in the woods of England's Sherwood Forest. Robin Hood's legend seems to be primarily documented in ballads and rhymes. The story indicated that Robin was driven to being an outlaw when King Richard was away on the Third Crusade and the throne was being mishandled by his evil brother John. However for every ballad and rhyme there appears to be a different history as to how his role came about. What we do know is Robin Hoods character was one of a skilled archer, and he and his group of outlaws wore costumes in deep greens, like the forest.
Early writings also suggest that the name of 'Robin Hood' and many variations of the spelling and pronunciation were actually labels giving to outlaws at the time. A type of nick name, either used by the outlaws to conceal their true identity or used by the monarchy and law to label anyone who is perceived as operating outside the law.
No matter what the story is, or how many times it is told, the tale of Robin Hood and his merry men, including Little John, Friar Tuck and his Maid Marion, it is a tale that has and will continue to provide us with entertainment. Recited in motion pictures, books, plays and cartoons, and now you can own and chess set themed after the group of Merry Men and those who represent the wealthy noblemen of England. The men of Sherwood emerging from their home in the woods on horseback to wage war to benefit the poor, and the knights of the English monarchy descending from the castle to protect their wealth. No matter what side you are on, this style of chess game can give imagery of the folklore of Robin Hood and provide you with hours and hours of entertainment carrying out your own crusade.

Why do men and women have different chess championships and don't compete together?
The game has nothing to do with physical power so why?
The strongest woman chess player of all time is Judit Polgar of Hungary.
Her best ELO(1) rating ever was 2735. Her current ELO rating is 2682 which still makes her the strongest woman chess player and number 54 on ELO list.
She's been the only woman among 100 strongest chess players. And she's competed in many top rated tournaments alongside men.
So this kind of answers your question. There's no restriction for women to compete in men tournaments and for world chess championship. The thing is there's hardly any woman among the top chess players.
All the chess players over the ELO of 2700 are currenctly men and among the top hundred players there's only Judit Polgar.
In fact there's no Mens Chess World Championship. All the grand chess competitions are open to all people regardless of sex and age. (In fact judit polgar has never competed for women chess championship!)
But since there's still a big gap between top men players and top women players. FIDE(2) has devised chess tournaments specifically for women and even chess titles (3) for women.
For example we have a grandmaster (GM) title and a woman grandmaster (WGM) (4) title. A WGM is much weaker compared to normal GM. However women can also acquire regular GM if they get the norms. Susan polgar sister of Judit Polgar was the first ever woman to get the regular GM title!

1.ELO rating is a system of ranking chess players compared to one another. The stronger a chess player is, the higher his/her ELO will be. For example Kasparov has the highest ELO of all time:2851
Right now Magnus Carlson has the highest rating:2826
However the current world chess champion is Anand who is the number 3 in the rating list with ELO of 2800. So the world chess champion isn't neccessarily the one with the highest rating.

Grandmaster is the highest and most renowned chess title. Very few people have the honor to be called chess Grandmaster. There are only 5 grandmasters from Iran!

4.The required norm for WGM is in fact a bit lower than that of normal IM. Other titles also have specific women variation such as WIM , WFM
