How many squares are within a checker board all together more then 64?
Not just 64 btw I'm looking for how many squares can you make within a checker board. Like you know how you can make squares with a 1 by 1 square, you can make a 2 by 2 square or 3 by 3. Sorry if I didn't explain clearly but, I tried XP
This is hard to describe in words but real easy if you look at a checkerboard visually:
You have 8^2 1x1 squares, 7^2 2x2 squares, 6^2 3x3 squares... Every time you make the square 1X1 bigger you cut the number of squares you can lay in a row by one. So the answer is:
8^2 + 7^2 + 6^2 + 5^2 + 4^2 + 3^2 + 2^2 + 1^2
64 + 49 + 36 + 25 + 16 + 9 + 4 + 1
= 204
